Kyrenia Chamber Choir |
The Kyrenia Chamber Choir was founded in 2001 by Maggie Woolcock. Our first concert took place in the Levantine Church, Edremit, where we sang to an audience of 50 people-all that the church could seat!
From such a small beginning we progressed to performances in St Andrew's Church, Girne and the Crypt at Bellapais Abbey. Our repertoire progressed from traditional British songs such as 'The Eriskay Love Lilt', 'Oh can ye sew cushions', 'Lavenders Blue' and 'The Three Ravens' to Elgar, Mozart and Brahms.
When Maggie left Cyprus we were extremely lucky to have George Ward already in our midst. An enthusiastic musician who has received professional voice training, George has become our director and taken the choir onwards. We have performed at the Girne American University, in a joint concert with the Turkish Cypriot Philharmonic Choir, accompanied by Maka Borchashvili, a Georgian concert pianist who now lives in Nicosia.
We are always on the lookout for new members, especially men! If you are interested in joining the choir please contact George Ward on popsward@hotmail.com or ring 0533 8659784
