Well, it's all over bar the shouting! All our hard work, both in learning the notes, and in raising enough money to perform the Armed Man in Bellapais Abbey, has paid off. We sang to a full house on both nights and by all accounts everyone enjoyed themselves: singers, musicians and the audience!
Despite a few hiccoughs, including the fusing of the lights with 4 bars left to sing on Wednesday evening, there were no real dramas. Bridget Kerr had to sacrifice her opportunity to sing and become production manager for both nights- a vital role which she performed admirably. George realised his dream, conducting a professional orchestra which had materialised from unpromising beginnings, bringing musicians from Turkey and South Cyprus, to join together with two ensembles from Lefkosa. In all, some 40 musicians, together with 100 singers from Kyrenia Chamber Choir and Gloucester Choral Society, thoroughly enjoyed the experience singing in such an atmospheric location.
After 15 months of planning, fund-raising and practicing, life feels a little strange. But we are already beginning to talk about what will come next! Watch this web-site for more details in due course.
